There will be a unique performance that celebrates both the strength and colour of singing in the region and the rich musical tradition of ‘these islands’. Through Albion's own arrangements of traditional tunes such as Scarborough Fair and Jerusalem, the concert will bring to life Britain’s great musical heritage – and show it off to the world.
We'll be joined in concert by a massed choir made up of singers from across the city, representing many of its umpteen choral groups including the Philharmonic Chorus, the Oratorio Chorus, Vivacity, and many others, brought together for the first time for this special event. This will create a wonderful live atmosphere, surrounding the audience with song, bringing to life Shakespeare’s “the isle is full of noises”.
The Tour coming to Yorkshire gives us a wonderful opportunity for Sheffield to show off our thriving cultural life to the nation and the world. Music is part of who we are - it gives us our identity - and there’s such a great buzz in bringing people together. It’s a very sociable activity as well as a cultural one. Singing is good for you and music brings life and meaning to the world.
Millennium Gallery next Sunday evening, 30 March at 6.30pm.
