Having just returned from a successful tour to Dublin the choir is now enjoying rehearsing a wide-ranging programme of traditional and contemporary Christmas music.
The first half of our choral programme will include Franz Biebl’s Ave Maria, as well as Deo Gratias! - a wonderfully evocative piece by the contemporary Estonian composer Urmas Sisask. After the interval the programme will include such Christmas classics as the Wexford and Nativity Carols. Our final block will include the ever-popular Zither and Calypso Carols. So it will be a concert with something for everyone.
We like to showcase local young musicians and this year our guest soloist will be Elliott Bailey who plays cello with the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra. In the first half he will play the 1st Movement of Elgar’s Cello Concerto, accompanied by George Parsons on piano.
Ticket prices are again maintained at £10, £8 (concessions) and £6 (students with a student card). Children under 16 are admitted free of charge. Complimentary refreshments (wine, soft drinks, mince pies and shortbread) will be brought to you by the choir during the interval.
Our CD of Christmas music, entitled Christmas at Chatsworth, with the Festive Sounds of the Abbeydale Singers will be on sale at the concert, priced at a concert discount of £8 (normally £10). You can hear CD sample tracks, at our website: www.abbeydalesingers.org.uk/cd. If you would like to buy copies of the CD for Christmas presents at the reduced price of £8 before 13th December, please contact us direct by phone or email (details below) so that we can arrange prompt delivery or collection.
