Join us on our Journey from Advent, through the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Shepherds, the Epiphany and, the slaughter of the Holy Innocents.
Enjoy meditative and uplifting music from around the world, from the Canadian Huron Carol, Cornelius’s Drei Konige, and Paul Hillier arrangements composed for his Copenhagen ensembles – the lush harmonies of his Es ist ein Ros and the bierkeller swagger of his Liebe Hirten. The English tradition is also in evidence with Howells’ Carol-Anthems, the Leighton Coventry Carol, and many other old favourites, as well as contemporary compositions like Judith Weir ‘s Advent antiphon Drop down ye heavens, Skempton’s Adam lay ybounden and Todd’s My Lord has come.
You can even join in! Raise the roof in the rousing refrain of Praetorius’s Quem Pastores Laudavere ‘Pulpit’ Carol, and in our Georgian Gallery Carols with Sheffield associations! The concert also includes pre-concert and interval Instrumental arrangements from Bach’s Advent Cantata BWV 57 and his Christmas Oratorio BWV 248
Friday 19th December 7.30pm, Upper Chapel, Norfolk Street. Tickets £12, concessions £10, students £6, under 16’ free.
