Escafeld Chorale

A friendly local choir singing a wide variety of music from the classical repertoire

Escafeld Chorale began life in 1969 as a small group of friends, the Fossdale Singers, under the direction of music teacher Ron Law. It has grown over the years (changing its name along the way), but still retains a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Under subsequent conductors (Francis Wells, Peter Dutton, Ian Roberts and Nigel Russell-Sewell) the choir has expanded its repertoire to encompass a wide range of music, from Palestrina, Byrd and Vivaldi, through Mozart, Haydn and Handel to Poulenc, Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Britten. George Parsons took up the music director's baton in September 2022.

The spring concert is usually centred around a major work from the choral repertoire, while summer concerts are generally lighter in tone, often including madrigals and part songs from our early repertoire. Christmas concerts of seasonal music and readings are firm favourites with both choir and audience. Visit the website for more information about Escafeld's repertoire.

We regularly work with local soloists, accompanists and instrumentalists, and are particularly keen to encourage young musicians.
